Join us for our Mindful Meet Up where there is an opportunity to connect with others interested in mindfulness and learn applications of mindfulness which enhance our lives and the lives of those around us. It’s for those with a regular mindfulness practice and those who are just exploring the idea of mindfulness. Join us for a single session or join us every month.
This Meet-Up’s theme is: Dismantling the Trace of Unworthiness: Recognizing Our Own Good Qualities
To some extent, all of us get caught in what Tara Brach terms “the trance of unworthiness,” a belief that, no matter how hard we try, we are always, in some way, failing. This “trance” is supported by our culture which discourages us from viewing ourselves with clarity and compassion.
One way to dismantle this trance of unworthiness is to learn to recognize our own good qualities. On the surface, this seems to be an easy task – I know that I can be thoughtful, creative, caring, productive…but almost immediately, our mind’s negativity bias breaks into this list, saying, “Really? Who are you fooling? There are many times when you are not!” We also find ourselves deflecting positive comments about something we’ve done well, saying, “Oh, anyone could have done that – it was nothing special.”
In this Mindful Meet Up, we’ll examine the neuroscience both behind our difficulty in recognizing our good qualities and also behind the rewiring of how we think about ourselves as we begin to absorb the facts of our good qualities. We’ll experience mindfulness practices that encourage us to take in the good in ourselves.
